You’re not alone when you feel stressed and tired around this time of the year. The pre Christmas time seems to bring an additional load of stress to most of us. More drinking, more family expectations, end of year reflections and trying to finish things up before the new year.
I am wondering if there are ways to not get so caught up in all the hectic?
The first step might be to sit down and write down the things that YOU would like to do or change. Do you really want to spend Christmas with your partner’s family, do you need to make and bake all those things that you were planning to do, is there space for some downtime? Or is it the choice to say no to some social gatherings or decide to not drink or drink less at that work Christmas party?
When you have a clearer picture in your mind on how to get through December on your terms, you could try to visualise yourself succeeding at your plan. Being ok with who you are and what you do. There is only so much you can do and no one is perfect. It is good to remind ourselves that it is usually us who put the most pressure on ourselves.
Would you rather be your own supportive friend or your harshest and worst critic?
It might help to every now and then to just stop, take a deep breath and let go!
Happy holidays to all of you!
